the ocean weeps for me
as my body drifts out to sea
and the sky screams out my name
the birds they bow their heads in shame
and the trees who stand at attention
all remember my questions
the world reels with sorrow
asking why I couldn't die tomorrow
but my time had come today
this muggy afternoon in may
the moment came unexpected
all of a sudden I had lost my head
always said it would end this way
no one had begged me to stay
so I trusted the wind to catch me
but it let me fall free
and as I neared the ocean's waves
they reached out to save
the world reels with sorrow
asking why I couldn't die tomorrow
but my time had come today
this muggy afternoon in may
the people I knew never understood
they all said I never would
not a tear from them is shed
as to death I am newly wed
dressed in the finest blacks
I dance along behind its mask
and hope that somewhere someone
will shed a tear for no one
the world reels with sorrow
asking why I couldn't die tomorrow
but my time had come today
this muggy afternoon in may
the ocean weeps for me
as my body drifts out to sea
I cannot feel a thing
as I'm lifted on an angel's wings
my world reels with sorrow
asking why I couldn't die tomorrow.
