Coastal Morning -snapshot-

The sun's fingers stretch
to carve shadows in a thick fog,
while wooden spirits chant prayers
for each boat's crew
as they shove off on this
early morn.

Away down quiet channels
they glide on a sea of glass,
it is still until machinery is revved
and nets lowered, mens' voices
awakening gulls on nearby
log booms.

Half conscious seals circle the commotion,
curiosity driving their sleek bodies
through underwater forests
yet to be touched by the sun's
protruding fingers.
