A Moment Of Childlike Thought

I pump my bare legs on this creaking swing as she glides back and forth over the crispy grass. Who is this girl that has come to play with me? A copy cat is what she is, silent by my side, hiding from the summer sun. She is the strangest girl I've ever met, there are no eyes or freckles on her face and you can only see her upturned nose above her thin lips when I turn to the side.
Man is she fast, fast as me. We had a race when mother rang the lunch bell, neck and neck past the barn but I lost her in the field until she caught up rounding the corner of Grandma's potting shed.
Wriggling my toes in the cooling sunlight I let time slow as I face sky then ground, sky then ground. Crickets call like a buzzing mother for my friend to return home and as my own mother rings the bell for super I watch as that shy little girl fades into the evening shadows.

I love this entire piece, but especially the last part:

Your imagination is on hyperdrive, as usual!
